What is a “portón” y where can I find it?
Entrance door to a rustic building – Portón
Exterior door or “portón” are heavy doors for the main house entrance, double-paneled affairs that often have wrought-iron looking mechanism. They are costly and slightly harder to find.
Installing antique doors usually calls for some modifications so you will need a carpenter to repair it. Some can be mounted directly to the wall with iron hinges. Others require custom-built frames.
Take into consideration that these old doors don’t work as if they were new, so you will have to do some adjustments sooner or later but it is worth it!
In our last renovation the owners decided to buy one portón from an old convent that was demolished. From that moment the door was named “La puerta de las monjas”
